Paws & Claws Retreat, located just north of Tokoroa, South Waikato is the Purr-fect accommodation solution for your feline or canine friends. We offer everything from private and individual rooms to communal but fun sanctuaries. With plenty of toys, climbing poles and scratching poles, your cat will have plenty to occupy their curious minds.  With large outdoor runs and indoor overnight kennels your dogs can be comfortable on the cold nights and stretch their legs during the day.  For a more detailed description, read more below.

Another refreshing benefit of Paws & Claws Retreat is that, despite being a cattery first and foremost, we can accommodate your dogs too in our existing kennel facilities. We have experience caring for a range of animals with individual needs and we'll love your pets the same way we love our own.  With over 10 years showing and loving our cats, and our amazing security guard Maremma Sheepdogs, you can be confident that we are experienced and have your pet's best interest at heart.

We offer a relaxing hideaway with a gorgeous home like indoor area with fresh air and full outdoor views. Because we have smaller numbers of guests, we can provide a very personal level of care, which of course includes cuddles, strokes and daily play. Located in a rural setting in the central North Island, we have peaceful surroundings.  Our facilities do not have that 'clinical' feel.  Your pet is not confined to a cage each day and has the run of the indoor and outdoor/commuunal areas.  We also have larger individual cages, kennels and runs for those that are not so sociable.  We offer these options to set us apart and because we understand that every pet has different needs.  Ultimately, for us, it's always rewarding to see your pet relaxed and happy whilst you are away.

Our Cattery is semi-communal.  Your cat has his/her own unit overnight.  The unit fits a bed, litterbox and water bowl.  We have large units that are spacious enough for multiple cats or large cats such as Maine Coons or Norwegians.   From morning till evening, your cat has access to the indoor/outdoor communal cattery.  The Cattery comprises of an indoor room and a conservatory style enclosure with fresh air and full outdoor views.  The indoor rooms are full of scratch posts, various level shelves/platforms, tunnels and plenty of toys.  We have a radio on 24/7 with easy listening music playing for our guests.  Much fun to be had butterfly and bird watching.  Our younger guests enjoy playing together if there is a need to keep them separate from the older cats.

Our Kennel facilities consist of large indoor kennels with raised beds for overnight and large outdoor runs for your dog to stretch their legs during the day.  We can cater for up to 10 dogs.  we like to keep our numbers low so we ccan give your dog the individual love and attention they need during their stay with us.  Extra walking is available for a small daily fee if required.

We have a focus on cleanliness.  Cattery and Kennels are cleaned daily, bedding replaced when required, quality food for cats and dogs, and fresh water changed twice daily for the health and well-being of your beloved pets.

Please note: Public holidays fill up very quickly. Please get in as early as possible to reserve your pet's spot. We are closed for drop offs and pickups Christmas Day, Boxing Day, January 1st, 2nd, Good Friday and Easter Monday.
